Redistribution

This applies to ALL releases by the NBST.
edit: at this time, we are not accepting international translation be made of our scans.

Things you can't do...

  1. You are not allowed to make financial profit out of our scanlation directly or indirectly

NO SELLING/RENTING/PIMPING OR ANY VARIATIONS IN BETWEEN OF THESE SCANLATIONS! EVER! I have no love for Tazmos.

  2. The NBST releases cannot be reused for other scanlations

if you are a novice cleaner or you are part of another scanlation group, you cannot take our scanlation, in whole or in part, edit some part of the image or text then claim it as your own. That's just shows that you are a petty thief. I won't discuss the legality of the thing either since we're pirates... Unless of course you ask for permission(see things you can do)

Also uploading it to youtube is not allowed! The youtube community doesn't appreciate manga. And some of those bastards actually have the nerve of calling a chapter an episode. The NBST scans are NOT made to be viewed in crappy video format.

However, you can ask for permission. If it's to make a translation to another language or something worthwile, we might say yes.

  3. NO REHOSTING!!

In very simple words, it means you can't re-upload the files you download from this website. You can download it, that's fine. You can view online, that's fine too. But you cannot

That includes uploading to megaupload, rapidshare, sendspace, seeding in torrents, peer to peer networks, Irc channels(except #lurk), usenet etc etc.

If you find our releases elsewhere, report them, tell em to remove those files, stop the seeding immediately! delete those blasphemous copies!

The only place on the internets the files should be hosted is on the NBST website(you're looking at it)

Part of the reason for this is explained in rule one. People who host our release on their sites usually the put tons of ads, popups and spyware and make profit out of our work. The NBST uses it's ads for the survival of their website, not raw profit.

The other is security. I usually double virus check zip files before uploading. Other sources may inadvertently(or even on purpose) add viruses and malwares to our releases.
We don't want our good name to be spoiled by such incidents and you don't want the problems.

thirdly, its for paranoia. If things get too hot one day, we can just delete everything here and it will seem that the whole thing was just a dream within a dream...

However, you can still post the permalinks to the release post on your site, blog, forum etc.

To get the permalink, right-click(or whatever it is you people do on a mac) on the big orange heading and copy the link location. Paste it where ever you want.
Those are three simple rules. I hope i won't have to hound after you if you break them.

Things you can do

As long as it's not for another scanlation, you can reuse the the NBST release in part but not in whole.
  1. Art work

If you want to take some part of the scan for art work/colouring or some small project, It's Okay. Just go ahead. No need to bother telling us about it.

But crediting is appreciated. even if in very small font. Just mention that you got the image from a NBST scan, post a link to the site and such. If it's a bigger project, do drop a comment about it on this website. We'd love to hear about it.

  2. Reviews

Heck, I even encourage you to do reviews! review our chapters on your blogs and websites and send us trackbacks! We'd just love the publicity. But, don't rehost all the pages or the zip files on your site. you can use a few pages if you want but not all of them. You should instead put a permalink to the post here on nbnakama.com.

  3. Translations

the simplest solution is for you to join the NBST as cleaner/typesetter. then you'll be able to get access to the cleaned pages automatically.

but if you are from another scanlation group, YOU NEED TO ASK PERMISSION FIRST.

There can be an arrangement for you to get cleaned untypesetted pages if you want to make a translation to another language.

In return, you must help us clean the chapters you want to use. It's a win win situation really. You can contact us using the contact form and we'll discuss about it.

We will give you access to the techniques and software we use. however, you must swear never ever to reveal those software and techniques to the public or other scanlation groups! I'm serious about that. I don't want my techniques to become public just yet.

You will be trained in those techniques for a while. and when you are ready, you will be asked to participate in the cleaning. There's no fixed quota of pages you need to do. but given that the average weekly manga has 17-20 page, taking 4 pages off our hands is a lot of help. More people means less work for everbody and the speed and quality will increase dramatically.

Now, you should know that the NBST has very different quality and speed standards compared to other groups. It'll be a  bit tough in the beginning but you should get the hang of it. Also we do not use photoshop. way too expensive. So if your life depends on adobe, vamos!

Some do's and dont's in case you decide to make a translation:
    • ALWAYS tell us about it. Even if you have already started. We can even host your finished work here on the site.
    • NEVER remove the credits page! The names of the original cleaning team and raw providers should never be separated from the scanlation.
    • NEVER remove the NBST flag watermark form the first and last pages! That's to ensure that readers know by that mark who made the scanlation. I highly recommend that you put your own mark/logo if you have one besides the NBST flag.
    • Wherever you decide to host the work you did, ALWAYS give the permalink to the release on the nbst website. As far as possible

The same restrictions concerning reuse applies to scans cleaned by the NBST and typesetted by third parties! You cannot reuse the translated scans for further scans without permission of either the third party scanlators, the NBST or both.

How the translated scans get redistributed is up to the thirdparty scanlators who translated it. but no redistribution of the english scan outside the NBST. period!

we will not accept people who want to reuse the cleaned pages to make another english scan, duh!

Other stuff...

  • Deleting our releases after 24 hours?

why would you want to do that? Oh yeah, that copyright thing. Well that's up to you. Personally, I wouldn't. But always keep the well being of the mangaka in mind so that they will live long lives and be able to bring more enjoyment to you. And buy the volumes of the manga if they come out in your country or if you can afford to buy them from abroad.

And if you think those rules are unfair, well, you can go elsewhere to download/view fan scanned manga.
